Proverbs 3 13-26

13 Blessed are those who find wisdom,
    those who gain understanding,
14 for she is more profitable than silver
    and yields better returns than gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies;
    nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;
those who hold her fast will be blessed.

19 By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations,
by understanding he set the heavens in place;
20 by his knowledge the watery depths were divided,
and the clouds let drop the dew.

21 My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight,
preserve sound judgment and discretion;
22 they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.
23 Then you will go on your way in safety,
and your foot will not stumble.
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
26 for the Lord will be at your side
and will keep your foot from being snared.

I was looking up Bible verses that speak on being focused and Google sent me to this chapter, Proverbs Chapter 3 so I started reading. As I was reading, verses 13-15 really stood out to me and made me start thinking about the 1.4 billion dollar Powerball lottery ticket that everyone has been going crazy about.  Within these verses it says that BLESSED are those who find WISDOM and then goes on to say how WISDOM is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold (that’s me paraphrasing). I kept reading that over and over again and thinking about the Powerball and about how we as Americans and just people in general seem to have a FETISH for money and other materialistic things… WE hold money, cars, clothes, jewelry and anything else that can be PURCHASED in such high esteem… We treat money as if it is more valuable than our relationships, our friends, our integrity, our honor, our pride,  it outweighs our beliefs and morals at times and the list goes on…If we put in half the time and effort that we put in to trying to obtain money, and trying to get ahead and “keep up with Jones’”, and started chasing after WISDOM, understanding, and after GOD with that same fire, desire , and passion THEN we would TRULY be RICHLY blessed and “wealthy” people. Don’t get me wrong 1 billion dollars would nice and Im not saying anything is wrong with having money or wanting money and by no means and I’m knocking ANYONE who bought a Powerball ticket, all I’m saying is don’t let MONEY or any other worldly materials cloud your judgment and take the place of what is TRULY valuable in life. Money is great, clothes are great, cars are great I love all that stuff too but none of those things or any other worldly materials are more valuable than WISDOM and a relationship with GOD. Stay focused on GOD and HIS Word and HIS Will and make HIM number ONE and above all things in your life and you will experience and possess things far more valuable than anything money can buy.
