The importance of friendship

  1. Proverbs 13:20 Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.

We need surround ourselves with wise and smart people who we can learn something from. We need to understand that we pick up the good and bad habits of our friends that we hang out with on a regular basis whether we know it or not. With that being said we need to be cautious of the people we’re hanging out with. If we surround ourselves with fools we pick up their foolish behavior which can lead us into harm’s way. If we hang out with people who are wiser and smarter than us we pick up their habits and behaviors and we can actually learn something from being around them. Choose your friends wisely

  1. Colossians 3:12-14Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

These verses explain very clearly how to treat our friends and everyone else we come in contact with. It says to treat people with kindness, to be patient, and to be FORGIVING if we have a complaint against them and above all to act in love….Note the verse does not include any “IF’s” “ANDs” or “BUTS” in regards to showing love to people. That is because showing love to one another is something that we should always do. It doesn’t say to show love and to be kind to people IF they are kind and show love to us. No this verse outlines how we as followers of Christ are to treat all people that we come in contact with especially our friends. Show your friends love, regardless of the time, day, or situation and this will bind the relationship together in perfect harmony.

  1. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

Real, true friends are always trying to encourage each other and help one another be the best that they can be. So when you’re hanging out with your friends rather than talking for hours about what celebrity tweeted what or what so and so posted on Instagram or anything pointless like that, why not talk about something meaningful that can benefit and build each other up…Talk about your goals….set some goals, talk about what you want to do with your life, your plans for the future, spread the Word of God… Talk about something that is beneficial and actually meaningful to your lives so that way when everyone leaves and goes home they go home better than they were when they came. Build one another up and cherish the time that you have together with your friends because once that time is gone you can’t get it back. Make use of that time together, and build each other up, don’t waste it.

  1. Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

I know a lot of us have had friends who have switched up on us or changed sides or did us dirty, but we don’t have to worry about any of that when it comes to Jesus Christ. He is the same yesterday and today and forever. The closer we get to Him, and the more we get to know Him the better our life becomes. He is everything we could ever need and so much more. He is our friend, our teacher, our provider, our Savior, and everything else in between. Friendships and relationships are important but not nearly as important as a relationship with Jesus Christ. If our relationship with God is first in our lives all our other relationships, and friendships, and everything else in life will fall right into place.  I am a living witness to this. Just a few months before I started this blog I was completely lost and felt like a total bum because I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and all the people around me did, I was on the verge of getting kicked out of college, and everything was just a mess. But I kid you not when I put GOD FIRST in my life and really started living for HIM everything else started to fall in place. My relationship got better, my grades got better, and now I know exactly what I want to do with my life and the only thing I did differently was put GOD FIRST. But you don’t have to take my word for it, come to Him and see for yourself.
