12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
Stop…Listen…and Obey. There are things God has been trying to tell you for the past couple of days, weeks, months, maybe even years…Situations He has been trying to warn you about to help you avoid some heartbreak down the road. There are things God has been wanting you to do for Him but you didn’t hear Him because you didn’t stop, wait or listen for His voice. So often in our prayer time we provide God with a list of things we want, things we need, and spend the whole day just asking God for these things, but how often do we stop…wait…and listen for God’s response to our prayers? I realized this was an issue for me this morning. I woke up and hit the floor to pray. I was just going on and on, about what I wanted and I was hogging up the conversation from God. As I was done asking for everything, I was just about to say “Amen”, get up off my knees and go about my day. But I decided to stay there and just rest in God’s presence. I asked Him to speak to me. I stayed on my knees and just waited and listened for God’s response, and sure enough He spoke to me. I’m not going to lie at first it took some time to really make out His voice and what He was saying to me because most of the time I just say “amen” and go about my business. God revealed to me that isn’t how prayer is supposed to work. It shouldn’t just end with me saying “amen” and going about my business without waiting for God’s response. I realized I needed to be still and wait to hear what God had to say to me. Saying Amen and going about my business is the equivalent to walking up to someone and asking them for directions and then walking away before they even get a chance to respond. Then we drive around aimlessly trying to figure out how to get to where we want to go. That’s how it is when we don’t listen for God’s direction…Yes, you did the right thing by asking for directions, but you left before the guy could even give you an answer. Our prayer time should not look like this, but it often does. Prayer is direct communication with God, through Jesus Christ. It’s our way to have a DIRECT conversation with our Heavenly Father. But just like any conversation between two people it shouldn’t be just one person dominating the conversation. If we are the only ones talking it doesn’t make for much of a conversation. That is what God was telling me today and maybe what He is telling you too. WE should not be dominating the conversation when we are in prayer. I encourage you to stop what you are doing and pray to God. Take this time to communicate with your Father in Heaven, to really commune with Him, by listening to what He has to say. Understand there are things that God desires for YOU specifically to do for Him and for His Kingdom. There are things He has been trying to tell you for the past couple of days, weeks, months, maybe even years but you haven’t taken the time to stop and listen. This post would have never gotten written had I not stopped and listened to what God was trying to say to me. The last post that I wrote was on July 7th. I had been wondering why God hadn’t given me a message and He told me today that it was because I wasn’t listening for His response for what to write. Don’t dominate your prayer time or your relationship with God. Stop…Listen… and Obey the Words of the Lord and you will surely be blessed. Trust His Words and His guidance and know that He will never lead you in the wrong direction.

James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.
