“The change I want to see, must first begin in me”

In light of all that is taking place in the world with the terrorist attacks as well as the police shootings I understand that people are starting to become fearful, and not knowing what to do to change things. I just finished watching the video of the police officer in Minnesota who shot and killed Philando Castile as he was reaching to grab his license and registration.  After watching that God told me that I needed to start praying for this nation that I needed to start praying for this country and the world that I live in.  We spend so much time focused on ourselves in our prayer time (myself included), we need to start focusing our prayers on others. Start praying for the nation, because I don’t think it’s a secret that we are in desperate need of it.  God already knows what we have need of before we ask. Everything that we need God has already taken care of it. We need to stop spending all our time focused on ourselves and start praying for our nation and for our community. We have to pray for the police offers of our nation. WE have to pray that God may give them strength when they are on the job. We have to pray that God may give them wisdom and the ability to make sound judgment when they are out fighting crime and in midst of difficult situations. WE have to pray that the police officers and this country as a whole will turn their hearts to God and see that each and every one of us, black, white, yellow, purple are all God’s handmade creations made in His image and likeness. WE have to pray that the police officers may learn to look past the color of our skin when they pull us over and look deeper and see that we aren’t just a black guy, or a white woman but that we are a human being just like them hand made by God. We have to pray that as a nation we may stop racially profiling individuals and stop judging people based off of their appearances. Whether it’s by the clothes they have on or the color of their skin. None of that matters… The way somebody looks should not stop us from doing what God has called us ALL to do which is to love him, and to love others. We have to make these prayers. I know that we all see that this world is getting darker and darker, and that something needs to change. We have to understand that prayer changes things…WE have to understand that God is more than able. WE have to pray for things to change. We have to pray for people to turn their hearts to God. We have to pray that the people elected into office will choose to govern their lives as well as this nation according to the Word of God, and not by their own limited human wisdom. WE have to make these prayers and petition God not on behalf of our self but on behalf of the nation. But we as individuals MUST DO OUR PART! The change we want to see must first begin in us. WE have to make sure that no matter where we are, no matter who we are around, no matter what the situation or the circumstance is, that we are showing love and being a light in this seemingly dark world. WE have to live lives ALL DAY EVERY DAY that are REFLECTIVE and REPRESENTATIVE of JESUS CHRIST. We have to live lives that show that Christ lives in us (not just at church or around Christians). People are looking for answers…and THE answer is Jesus Christ. So today and every day that you are blessed by God to wake up you need to live a life that reflects and represents Jesus Christ so that people may me see Him in you and turn their hearts to Him.  Pray for your country. Pray for your governing officials. Pray for the police officers. Pray for your community. Pray for the Castile family and every other family effected by these recent tragedies. Prayer changes things but you have to have faith and KNOW that God is able. God did not give us a spirit of fear. There is nothing to be afraid of if we pray and ask for God’s will to be done. Our fear says to God that we don’t think He is able to turn this around. That we think the terrorist, the police officers, and Satan are more powerful than HE is…and that’s just not true. Activate faith, not fear and pray for the world. But understand that the change you want to see in this world must first begin with you. Be a light. Let Christ shine through you today.  Turn your heart towards Christ and pray that the world does the same.

Let me put the Word on it:

  1. 2 Timothy 1:7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
  2. Mark 12: 30-31 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[a]31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] There is no commandment greater than these.”
  3. Matthew 5: 14-16 14 “You are the light of the world.A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
  4. Matthew 6: 6-8 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Cast your cares upon the Lord

Matthew 11: 28-30

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Those of you who are weary and heavy burdened, come to Jesus! Those of you who are scared, those of you who are weak, those of you are stressed, and those of you who are worried in your spirits; cast your cares and burdens upon Jesus, and HE will give you rest. You can’t get through this alone, you’ve tried and it hasn’t worked. The stress, the anxiety, the worry, and the doubt that you have been feeling has controlled your life long enough. The fear of not measuring up to your parents unreasonable expectations for you. The stress of not graduating on time. The fear of not knowing what your future holds. The fear to step out on faith and do what God has ACTUALLY called you to do, rather than staying at your current job because it pays the bills. The doubt and fear that your career and business wont be successful. The fear that you wont have enough money to send your child to school. The stress and the fear that comes from not having a job. Whatever it may be… You’ve tried coping with it on your own. Maybe you’ve been running from it and acting like it doesn’t exist. Perhaps you use drugs and alcohol to cope with the anxiety and the worries. Maybe you eat to try and cope with the stress and the pain, or work out and watch TV to try and get over it. Doing whatever you can to distract yourself from what’s got you feeling weary and heavy burden deep down inside. You don’t have to feel this way any longer. Do what The Word says, COME TO JESUS and He will give you rest. Take His yoke upon you and learn from Him and His life. Study the way He lived and carried Himself, and there you will find rest for your soul. His yoke is easy- not harsh, hard, or pressing but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant. His burden is light. The peace you long for, the relief you long for, and the rest for your mind, body, and soul that you have so desperately longed for can be found in Jesus Christ. Come to Him. Seek His presence and cast your burdens and your cares upon Him and He will sustain you. “ Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 4:6-7)

Nothing is impossible for the one who believes

Without faith it is impossible to please God but with faith in God nothing is impossible. Nothing is impossible for the one who believes. Today I’ve been reading and studying the Book of Matthew, specifically Chapters 3-9. Throughout these chapters Jesus performs a variety of different miracles and heals a significant amount of people. What I noticed throughout these accounts where the miracles were performed was of course the love and grace of Jesus, but also incredible faith by the people who were looking to be healed. Faith causes things to happen. Faith causes God to move and to act in our lives. I don’t know what you are going through. I don’t know  what situation or circumstance you are in, but I do know that if you want your situation to change you must first BELIEVE that it can be changed in the mighty name of Jesus. We have to have faith beyond the facts. WE have to have faith like the 2 blind men had, who went to Jesus and asked Him to restore their sight. Jesus asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”, and they replied “Yes, Lord” with no hesitation. Jesus touched their eyes and said, “According to your FAITH let it be done to you” (Matthew 9:27-30). It was by FAITH in the Lord that they received their vision again. Faith causes God to move. We have to learn to have faith like the sick woman in the crowd who came to Jesus and grabbed the edged of his cloak and said to herself “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” she knew that if she could just get a touch of Him if she could just get into His presence the healing that she had been longing for, for 12 years would be given to her and it was. Jesus replied back to her saying, “your FAITH has healed you” (Matthew 9: 20-22). Faith causes God to move. If you are weakening in your faith or just struggling to trust God at this particular point in your life I would encourage you to delve into His word and to seek Him earnestly. I would encourage you to go back and read accounts from the Book of Matthew that deal with a lot of the miracles that Jesus performed. I would also encourage you to reflect back on your own life and some of the things that God has already brought you through. Train your mind to think positive and to have faith in God. I know for whatever reason it’s so much easier for us to think negatively than it is for us to think positively, but we as Christians have to remember who it is that we serve…We serve the Most High God. The Maker and Creator of All Things. We serve the same God who causes the sun to rise in the east and to set in the west. We serve the same God who binds the chains of the Pleiades, the same God who can loosen Orion’s belt. We serve the same God who brings forth the constellations in their seasons. What reason do we have to believe that He can’t bring us out this addiction? What reason do we have to believe that He can’t heal our mother or our father in the hospital. What reason do we have to believe that He won’t help our child to get on and stay on the path of purity? What reason do we have to believe that He is not able to do all things? We have no reason not to believe in Him and His abilities. Study His word and look at His track record. Reflect on your own life and look at Gods track record. It speaks for itself. He has never disappointed us, He has never wronged us, He has never hurt us, or done anything other than show us an abundance of love, grace, and mercy. God is able. You have to submit yourself wholly to Him. You have to seek Him earnestly, ask Him for what it is that you need. And when you ask, you have to believe and have complete faith that it will come to pass if it is His will. Then you must patiently wait and rest in His presence.  If you want your circumstance to change you must first BELIEVE that it can be changed in the mighty name of Jesus.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good”

Psalm 106:1

Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

I encourage you all right now to stop what you are doing and to take the time out to thank God, not only for what He has done but just for WHO He is. Take this time out to praise and worship His mighty name. Take a second to think about where He has brought you from and the things He has brought you through. We focus so much on what we don’t have and what we want, that we forget to just stop and look at what we do have, and to thank God for it. I’m saying all of this because I just took the time out to do this myself. I’ve been battling with the spirit of fear lately. So I have been praying all day for God to give me strength and to help me trust Him. But just now I decided to just stop and thank God. I took some time just to reflect on what God has already done for me and to reflect on how great He is and it took me to an amazing place mentally and spiritually. Understand that God already knows what we have need of before we even ask Him(Matthew 6:8). Just be patient and rest in Him. God hears all of your prayers and He knows exactly what you are going through, and He is right there with you in it. So rather than constantly praying and asking for this and that, take this time right now to thank God. Take this time to praise and worship Him and to let Him know that you love Him and that you are so grateful for what He has done for you and what He is going to do for you. Just thank Him for being the great God that He is. I don’t care what you’re going through right now. I don’t care what the situation or the circumstance is, we ALL have more than enough reasons to thank God for what He has done. Don’t focus on the negative or what is taking place around you, use this time to just seek God out and to reflect on what He has already done and thank Him for it.

Get into The Presence of the Lord

I encourage you all to listen to this song and do all that you can to get into the presence of the Lord this morning and stay there for the rest of the day. Call on the name of Jesus and invite Him into your life. I don’t care if you’re at work, if you’re at school, if you’re at home walking the dog I encourage you just to call on the mighty  name of Jesus and invite His presence into your life at this very moment. Regardless of the situation or circumstance that you are in right now. I don’t care what happen yesterday or what happen last week or even this morning. I don’t care if you’re in fear of something that might happen tomorrow, realize that this moment right here is the only moment that truly matters. Yesterday is dead and gone and it’s not coming back, and tomorrow is not promised to any of us. All you have is today, this moment right now. Use this time to seek the face and the presence of the Lord. Everything you need can be found when you get into his Presence and call on the name of Jesus. Whether it’s healing, deliverance, guidance, understanding, peace of mind, whatever it may be you can find it all in the presence of the Lord. Draw closer to God and He will draw closer to you.“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. -Luke 11:9-10

The first step though is to call on the name of Jesus and get into His presence. Things happen when you get into His presence.
