Luke 10:25-28 New International Version (NIV)
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
I want you all to think back to your high school or grade school years of when you would take a test. Now lets say during the test a question came up that you did not understand or that you needed a little bit more clarification on. So you got up and asked the teacher to help clarify the question for you so that you could solve the problem. And if he or she was a good teacher they did not just give you the answer to the question, rather they told you to think back to your notes and what you learned in class, or to think back to a specific passage you all read. The teacher would give you a hint, and point you in the right direction without giving you the answer directly because that defeats the purpose of the test. And if you studied for the test, and paid attention in class just that little nudge in the right direction would cause a light to go off in your head and help you solve the answer to the question correctly. That is exactly what is taking place in this parable. The man asked Jesus a question. Jesus takes the role of a Teacher and basically tells the man to think back to his notes. Once Jesus did this the man was able to give an answer and passed the test. Again Jesus just like any good teacher did not give the man the answer directly (although He could) but rather pointed him in the right direction and told him to revert back to his notes, that being the Word of God. In life we will all have test, trials, and tribulations. Just like any test we have ever taken in school the teacher gives us notes and information to study before the test so that we can be successful and so that they can see how well we know the information. The test we are hit with in our daily lives are no different. Jesus, our Teacher has fully equipped us with all the answers to pass every single test in life, and the answers lie within the Holy Bible. It is up to us to do our part, and study and mediate on His Word both day and night so when test come we can apply what we have read and learned to pass the test. There is not a situation, circumstance, or test in life that anyone has ever gone through or will ever go through that can not be solved by applying the Word of God to that situation, circumstance, or test. It is just up to us as individuals to do our part and study His Word, and then apply it to our lives. I don’t know what you’re going through what your current situation is but I guarantee the answer can be found in God’s Word; you just have to search the Scriptures and find it, then apply it to your life. God has fully equipped you with everything that you need to pass this test, and to move on to the next level and phase of your life. Do your part and God will certainly do His.
“Today is your day, don’t hesitate to make it great!” – Edgar Butler Jr.- The Purpose coach
Today I was driving and I started thinking about my life and analyzing how it had been going over the past couple of weeks. I realized that I could do so much better than what I had been doing in life. I realized that I’ve been giving life about 75%. Which isn’t TERRIBLE but it surely isn’t great, just average. I looked at how I’ve been in my relationship with my girlfriend and I said, “I can do better than that”. I looked at how I’ve been performing on the job and I said, “I can do better than that”. I looked at how I’ve been performing and preparing for school and I said, “I can do better than that”. I looked at how I’ve been approaching my blog and I said, “I can do better than that”. I looked at my relationship with the Lord and I said, “I can do better than that”. Like I said I haven’t been TERRIBLE in these areas of my life, I just know that I can do BETTER. I deserve to give myself better than what I have been giving. My girlfriend deserves better from me. My boss, my coworkers, they deserve better from me. My teachers deserve better from me. My family and my friends deserve better from me. Those of you who read my blog deserve better from me. My church deserves better from me. And most importantly GOD deserves so much better from me. So I encourage you to block out some alone time for yourself today and look at your own life and ask yourself, “can I do better”? (Hint: The answer should always be yes.) Yes, you can do better. In your marriage you can do better. In school, you can do better. At home you can do better. In your music career you can do better. In the gym you can do better. On the field you can do better. On the job you can do better. In your ministry you can do better. Whatever it is that you do, you can do it better than what you’ve been doing. You can do better than what you’ve been doing, and you know you can. You deserve to give yourself better than what you’ve been giving. Your family deserves better from you. Your friends deserve better from you. Your boss/your employees/co-workers deserve better from you. Your church deserves better from you. Your coaches deserve better from you. Most importantly Almighty God deserves better from you. Almighty God, the one who gives us life deserves better than what we have been giving Him. Every day we wake up is a blessing from the Lord. We are not alive right now by chance, or by luck, or by coincidence. God woke you up today for a reason. He didn’t wake you up for you to waste this day and to take it for granted or for you to only put in 50-75%. He woke you up to do great things for Him and for His Kingdom by utilizing the time, talent, and resources He has blessed you with. God, more so than anyone deserves your best today and every day that you are blessed by Him to be alive. Understand we can always do better and be better in life. So my challenge to you is to be better today than you were yesterday. And may grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
