You can do better

IMG_8429

Today I was driving and I started thinking about my life and analyzing how it had been going over the past couple of weeks. I realized that I could do so much better than what I had been doing in life. I realized that I’ve been giving life about 75%. Which isn’t TERRIBLE but it surely isn’t great, just average. I looked at how I’ve been in my relationship with my girlfriend and I said, “I can do better than that”. I looked at how I’ve been performing on the job and I said, “I can do better than that”. I looked at how I’ve been performing and preparing for school and I said, “I can do better than that”. I looked at how I’ve been approaching my blog and I said, “I can do better than that”. I looked at my relationship with the Lord and I said, “I can do better than that”. Like I said I haven’t been TERRIBLE in these areas of my life, I just know that I can do BETTER. I deserve to give myself better than what I have been giving. My girlfriend deserves better from me. My boss, my coworkers, they deserve better from me. My teachers deserve better from me. My family and my friends deserve better from me. Those of you who read my blog deserve better from me. My church deserves better from me. And most importantly GOD deserves so much better from me. So I encourage you to block out some alone time for yourself today and look at your own life and ask yourself, “can I do better”?  (Hint: The answer should always be yes.) Yes, you can do better. In your marriage you can do better. In school, you can do better. At home you can do better. In your music career you can do better. In the gym you can do better. On the field you can do better. On the job you can do better. In your ministry you can do better. Whatever it is that you do, you can do it better than what you’ve been doing. You can do better than what you’ve been doing, and you know you can. You deserve to give yourself better than what you’ve been giving. Your family deserves better from you. Your friends deserve better from you. Your boss/your employees/co-workers deserve better from you. Your church deserves better from you. Your coaches deserve better from you. Most importantly Almighty God deserves better from you. Almighty God, the one who gives us life deserves better than what we have been giving Him. Every day we wake up is a blessing from the Lord. We are not alive right now by chance, or by luck, or by coincidence. God woke you up today for a reason. He didn’t wake you up for you to waste this day and to take it for granted or for you to only put in 50-75%. He woke you up to do great things for Him and for His Kingdom by utilizing the time, talent, and resources He has blessed you with. God, more so than anyone deserves your best today and every day that you are blessed by Him to be alive. Understand we can always do better and be better in life. So my challenge to you is to be better today than you were yesterday. And may grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

It’s not about you part 2

God has a purpose and a plan for all of us. God has called us all to do something specific and unique that no one else can do, because God called us specifically to do it. I believe my calling and purpose is to promote and advance the gospel of Jesus Christ through writing and speaking. I know that God has called me to do this, yet I have still been slacking on doing it with the excellence that God desires. God revealed that to me today. I am compelled to promote the gospel of Jesus Christ on this blog, and to help people find Christ or to help people better their relationship with Christ. I have allowed my job and school, and everyday life struggles to distract me from doing what God has called me to do through this blog. I have made excuses, rather than adjustments. God told me this morning that I have to be willing to put up with these everyday struggles for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He told me that my calling is not about me. My calling and my purpose is not about me. Your calling and your purpose is not about you. It is so much bigger than just us… What we do with our time, our resources, and our God given abilities on this planet should not be used just to benefit us and to indulge in our own selfish desires. Our purpose on this planet is so much bigger than that… It’s about helping others, and bringing glory to Almighty God. I do not know what God has called you to do, and you might not either. If you do not know what your calling is, then get on your knees and ask God to reveal it to you. And if you do know what God has called you to do but just aren’t doing it, then I need you to get up and answer the call TODAY. If you know your calling and you are walking in it, then I encourage you to keep doing what you are doing but take it to another level. If you’ve been doing good work at whatever God has called you to do, then I want you to step it up a notch and start doing GREAT work. Be intentional about your growth. I just want you all to understand that you are compelled to answer the calling that God has on your life. It is not going to be easy, but know that God has already equipped you with everything you need to do what He has called you to do. I know you’ve got school, I know you’ve got work, I know you have bills to pay, family struggles, relationship issues, etc., etc. but understand you must be willing to press through for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ. You must be willing to press through those things so that you can do all that God has called you to do, and to become all that God has called you to be.

Give God your heart, not your excuses

Give God your heart, not your excuses. God is not limited by your current situation or circumstance. God is not limited by your past. God is not limited by your race. God is not limited by the fact that you only have a high school education. God is not limited by your income, or lack there of. God is not limited by your background. God is not limited by your family history. God is not limited by your age. All of that is irrelevant in God’s eyes. God can still use you, and He wants to use you despite how things look right now in your life. Take David for example. David was a shepherd boy, the youngest of all his brothers, yet God still used him to conquer nations. Take Paul for example. This is a man who used to persecute the church, and kill Christians, yet down the line God still used him to write 13 of the 27 books in the New Testament. I can use my own life for an example. Just a couple years ago I was just a guy with criminal record, a 2.0 GPA in college who had no drive, no direction, and absolutely no clue what I wanted to do with my life. But now God is using me on this blog and on a Christian podcast to do His work. Myself, David, and Paul had a couple things in common. We were all people God brought out of lowly places, people who the world frowned upon. We were people who had situations and circumstances that looked like we were bound for failure, people who didn’t look like they would amount to anything. But God is able, because He is not limited by our situations or circumstances. Man judges based off of outward looks, but God looks at the heart. God does not care about what is on the outside, or the situation you are in. God does not care about race. God does not care about how much money you make. God does not care about how educated you are. God’s main concern is where your heart lies, that’s what He looks at and that’s what He cares about. Give God your heart, not your excuses. Again God is not limited by your current situation, or by your past or by anything else. God can still use you. He wants to use you, but you must do your part right where you are in life. All God needs to use you, is to have your heart fully submitted to Him, to do His will. You can do that right now… It does not matter if you are white or black. It does not matter if you are rich or poor. It does not matter if you are the CEO of the company or if you are the janitor at the company. It does not matter if you are in between jobs. It does not matter if you have a 1.8 GPA or a 4.0 GPA. None of that stuff matters. None of that has anything to do with giving God your heart so that He can use you to become the person that He has called you to be. God has a divine purpose for your life. He has great plans for your life and for your future, plans that are not limited by where you are currently at in life. Don’t focus on your issues, don’t focus our problems. Don’t focus on your situation. Just focus on God. Give Christ your heart, so you can become all that He has called you to be. God is not limited by anything. The world may tell you that where you are in life is where you will always be. Do not listen to the world, listen to God. And trust and know that He has a unique purpose and calling on your life. You tap into that purpose by giving your life over to Him.

Accept the challenge

Mark 1:35
Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and slipped out to a solitary place to pray.

Luke 5:15-16 15  Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

Matthew 14:23
After He had sent them away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone,
Luke 6:12
In those days, Jesus went out to the mountain to pray, and He spent the night in prayer to God.

In these verses we see that Jesus Himself, made a conscious effort to step away from the world to go and spend quality alone time with God. We must do the same thing if we desire to have a healthy and flourishing relationship with God. It is so easy to get caught up in the world, and drift away from God due to life’s every day struggles and distractions. Whether it’s our phones, TV, food, relationships, school, our job, kids, etc. we can’t allow these things or anything else to distract us and keep us from spending one on one time with God every day that we are blessed to be alive. So today I challenge you all to set aside a block of time where it is just you and God. Do like Jesus did, and just take a step away from the world to spend quality time with God. Step away from your friends, step away from your relationship, put down and turn off your phone, turn off the TV, put down the chips, and cleanse yourself of all distractions(internally and externally). Don’t worry about your issues. Don’t worry about your troubles. Go to an isolated place, a quiet place, free of distractions and just seek God. Seek God through His Word. Seek God through prayer. Just focus on God. Focus on getting closer to Him, and being connected to Him for that moment. God rewards those who diligently seek Him, and come to Him believing that He is God (Hebrews 11:6). God desires to move powerfully in your life. He has plans for you that are constantly progressing and developing. Take some today (and everyday) to seek God out for the purposes and plans that He has for your life. With all of the distractions in our lives it is hard for us to hear from God at times, which is why today I am encouraging you to set aside some time to just commune with your Heavenly Father. Speak to God, and listen to what He has to say back to you.

CHALLENGE:

Set aside a block of time today, 30 minutes to an hour to spend with God. Turn your phone off. Turn the TV off. No food. No drinks. No distractions. Just you and God. Spend that 30 minutes to an hour reading your Bible and praying to God. My challenge is for you to do this today, but I believe that if you seek God today with all your heart He will move so miraculously in your life and you will taste and see that He is good and come back for more every day for the rest of your life. I can say that with confidence because that is exactly what happened in my life. I sought God out diligently, and tasted and saw that He was good and now I just cant enough of Him, I pray that you have the same experience in your life.

Word of the day

Hebrews 3:12-14

12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
